Oral Pathology

Tooth graphic showing oral pathology

The oral cavity is unfortunately not spared from benign (non-cancerous) conditions.

The jaw bones are unique compared to other bones as they bear teeth.

Apart from the usual pathology that can affect bone, tooth related tumours and cysts may also develop.

Depending on severity and the aggressiveness of the lesion, the treatments may range from simple procedures to complex procedures where sections of the jaw is to be removed and would require the appropriate reconstruction to reestablish premorbid form and function.

Numerous benign conditions affecting the lining of the oral cavity (mucosa and gingiva) and surrounding soft tissue of the face are also treated by Maxillofacial and Oral surgeons and each will be treated on their own merit.
