Teeth that fail to erupt into a healthy position within the oral cavity are regarded as being impacted.
The most commonly impacted teeth are third molars (wisdom teeth) due to a lack of space within the mouth. Wisdom teeth can be associated with numerous problems including pain, tooth decay, periodontal disease, injury to adjacent teeth, tumours or cysts, therefore commonly require surgical removal.
After appropriate clinical and radiological examinations, guidance can be given whether or not removal of these teeth is necessary.
